These are exciting times for the Youth Services department here at the ICA as our team grows. A new Youth and Family Support Services Coordinator has recently joined the team and another full-time Youth Services Facilitator is currently being hired. We are also in the process of adding two more programs to our already excellent roster of programming.
The last year was wrapped up with great success after some of the youth attended the Fresh Voices Conference and we started preparing for an engaging year in 2017.
The new year is starting with four new programs! Already launched was the Connecting Hearts Through Arts program, which empowers newcomer young women to express themselves creatively while building a community of support. The inspiration is high around this program, both among the facilitators, Salma Eddiani and Ekta Kudale, and all the participants. We are able to see the first artistic results already!
The youth team is also working enthusiastically on launching two more programs in February: the CORE (Coping & Resiliency) Program will be geared towards empowering newcomers to learn about well-being and to give them the tools for self-care, growth and healing. The Heal program will launch on January 25, and will consist of regular sessions on Wednesdays from 4pm to 7pm and includes an exquisite two-day retreat. Registration is now open for youth and young adults ages 16 and up!
Stay tuned for details on our new Connect Program and our Musica program. Both will launch in February 2017. The Connect Program is designed for youth and young adults ages 19 and up. This two-phase program will empower youth with inter-cultural communication skills to deepen their relationships with locals and people from across the globe, make human connections, build strong communities and integrate more deeply into Canadian and British Columbian Culture. The Musica program is designed to assist newcomer children in coping and emotional well-being through music therapy! Details will be published soon.
