ICA’s volunteer positions:
Help ICA childminders supervise daycare activities for preschool children aged 6 months to 5 years.
Help clients learn basic computer skills, such as word processing or web search.
Meet with an ESL learner for three months of weekly conversation in a classroom setting.
Work with ESL learners in a classroom or small-group setting. Learn more about English classes.
Help run a mobile lending library for ESL learners and provide general upkeep of learning resources.
Exchange letters with an ESL learner over a period of 3 months before meeting in person.
Host volunteers are matched with an immigrant newcomer to help them become familiar with their new community.
Host Mentor volunteers are matched with internationally trained professionals in the same or related career field to help them become familiar with their profession in the Canadian context. Learn more about Host Mentoring Services.
Assist the facilitator of the women's group, senior's group or youth programs with weekly meetings and activities.
Assist low-income ICA clients to fill out income tax forms and answer their income tax questions. Learn more about the Community Volunteer Tax Program.
Luminara is a community lantern celebration held every year. This year it will happen in the week of September 18 - 25. Volunteers are needed to help with lantern construction, interactive performance, traffic, site installation, fire safety, clean up and more. Please visit the Luminara page for more details.
Help ICA clients fill out forms and write letters, while also assisting settlement staff with clerical and research tasks. Learn more about the Settlement Program.
Volunteers are matched with an ESL learner for three months of weekly telephone conversation.
Answer email inquiries from newcomers who have not yet arrived in Victoria about local community services such as housing, education and the labour market.
Maintain an inventory of library materials and assist with general upkeep and organization of books and resources.
Volunteers provide assistance in the front reception area, including: answering a 6-line phone system, taking phone messages, greeting walk-in visitors, providing information regarding ICA programs and services, and referring clients to appropriate ICA staff.
Volunteers between the ages of 14 and 22 assist newcomer youth with their homework in a range of subjects and participate in social activities.
Volunteers between the ages of 12 and 22 participate in a weekly afterschool program with newcomer youth, participating in social & community projects and providing friendship & support.
