Employment and Assistance Appeal Tribunal
Submitted by admin on Thu, 2011-09-08 11:32The Employment and Assistance Appeal Tribunal is seeking individuals to serve as Members, and is striving to have members reflect the diversity of communities. The Tribunal is independent of government and hears appeals of most types of decisions made by the Ministry of Social Development under the employment and assistance program. The Tribunal also hears appeals of decisions made by the Ministry of Children and Family Development under the childcare subsidy program.

The Women's Group had a fabulous time sharing food and recipes recently in a cooking class hosted by three group participants. Our chefs taught us various cooking techniques, and introduced us to new and interesting ingredients.Youth Group Update: Summer Lights
Submitted by admin on Thu, 2011-09-08 11:28This summer, members of the ICA Youth Group were busy making lanterns and puppets in the art studio as part of the Luminara Travelling Light Show. We had the opportunity to showcase these at the Fringe Festival’s 25th Birthday Bash on August 23rd, and the lanterns and puppets will make another appearance at the Chinese Moon Festival Celebration in Gordon Head on September 11.
Seniors Program Update
Submitted by admin on Thu, 2011-09-08 11:26Our seniors’ programming is set to resume in September with two offerings: a weekly seniors’ group and an English class for seniors.
The Seniors’ Group will meet on Wednesday mornings for four weeks starting on September 14 at 9:30am. Activities will include speakers, field trips, classroom activities and English practice. If you know any older adults (55+) who might benefit from this group, please refer them to ICA’s Settlement Program.
ELSA Update: Back-to-School
Submitted by admin on Thu, 2011-09-08 11:21This month, ICA’s English Language Services for Adults (ELSA) program starts its 2011-2012 school year.
ELSA level 1 to 5 classes in the morning, afternoon, and evening will start on Monday, September 12. Two Blended Seniors’ classes will also start on the same day, including one class on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and another on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, both from 12:30 to 2:30pm.
Luminara Inter-Cultural Arts Update
Submitted by admin on Thu, 2011-09-08 11:18As we head into the sparkling swirl of our second year – after moving away from the big annual festival in Beacon Hill Park – the Luminara tradition is alive and well in Greater Victoria. Luminara is showing up in new places every year, and we’re starting to get the feel of this new rhythm. It hasn’t been easy to let go of the one big festival, especially when so many people are sad to see it end in Beacon Hill Park.
