Position: Casual ELSA Instructor
Hours of Work: On-call / 9:00 – 11:30 am or 12:30 – 3:00 pm or 6:00 – 9:00 pm
Location of Work: 930 Balmoral Road
Rate of Pay: $ 22.90 – 26.94 per hour
Job Description:
The casual ELSA Instructor will deliver English as a Second Language (ELSA) instruction and orientation to facilitate the successful settlement and adaptation of new immigrants to Canada enrolled in the ELSA Program. The casual ELSA Instructor will be on-call for relief purposes and is responsible for duties such as: preparing instructional objectives, lesson plans, teaching aids and materials which support program objectives; delivering ESL instruction and orientation to assigned level of students.
The casual ELSA Instructor may be responsible for other duties as required such as: organizing appropriate field trips and guest speakers; obtaining student feedback on course content and activities; supervising classroom volunteers; maintaining student attendance and notifying supervisor of any concerns; referring students to appropriate community services and resources, and liaising with the ELSA Head Instructor as well as other program and agency staff for the effective delivery of services. The casual ELSA Instructor is required to submit monthly availability calendars indicating when they will be available to teach.
Qualifications:
Undergraduate university degree and TESL Canada recognized TESL certification, and minimum two years demonstrated successful experience in ESL instruction in a settlement language based ESL program. Experience and knowledge in the area of immigrant and multicultural services, and knowledge and practical application of the Canadian Language Benchmarks in the area of ESL delivery and assessment. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to function productively in a cross-cultural environment. Proficiency in common desktop computer applications. Successful applicants will be required to pass a criminal record check. Equivalent education, training and experience will be considered.

Position: Immigrant and Refugee Women’s Group Facilitator
Hours of Work: 14 hours per week (September 2010 to April 2011)

Rate of Pay: $ 17.60 – 20.70 per hour
Job Description:
The Immigrant and Refugee Women’s Group Facilitator will plan and facilitate group activities that address the needs of immigrant and refugee women in the Greater Victoria area. Areas of responsibility will include: establishing and maintaining links with immigrant and refugee women; promoting the women’s group services; organizing and facilitating a weekly meeting for immigrant and refugee women; planning and facilitating activities that address issues of concern for immigrant and refugee women; and providing women with relevant information, resources, and support. The Facilitator will plan and implement activities and workshops in a friendly and supportive environment. The Facilitator may also supervise volunteers and practicum students.
Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in a discipline related to education, women’s studies, social work, or equivalent training and experience will be considered. Excellent knowledge and understanding of women’s issues as it relates to immigrant and minority groups in Canada. Demonstrated experience in facilitation, curriculum planning, as well as with diverse cultures. Personal immigrant experience and /or second language is an asset. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to work independently and function productively in a cross-cultural environment.
