English Language Services for Adults (ELSA) provides English language training from Beginners to High-Intermediate level for adult newcomers to Canada. ELSA is government-funded and free for students. To join an ELSA class you must be a newcomer 17 years old or older and approved for permanent residence, a Canadian citizen, or a refugee claimant. Classes are friendly and focus on practical English and information about life in Canada. Child care is available for pre-school children of ELSA students. ELSA is funded through the Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development: Immigrant Integration Branch.
If you are interested in joining an ELSA class, please come into the ICA office at 930 Balmoral Road or call (250-388-4728) to make an appointment to see a settlement worker who will help you apply for ELSA.
