We are always looking for friendly & enthusiastic people who would like to dedicate their time, skills and energy to our organization through volunteering. Our programs provide individuals with the opportunity to engage in cross-cultural interaction, learn more about different cultures and gain valuable skills.

Here are some different types of volunteering positions available at ICA:

Childminding
Help ICA childminders supervise daycare activities for pre-school children aged 6 months to 5 years.

Computer Skills Training
Help clients learn basic computer skills, such as word processing, Internet browsing and emailing.

ESL Teacher
Volunteers with teaching experience are needed for a commitment of 4 hours per week for 7 weeks to teach ESL adult classes. More about English classes.

ESL Teacher's Aide
Gain experience working with ESL learners in a classroom or small group setting. More about English classes.

Luminara Victoria
Luminara Victoria is a magical lantern festival held every July at St. Ann’s Academy & Beacon Hill Park. Volunteers are needed to help with lantern construction, interactive performance, traffic, site installation, fire safety, clean up and more. Please visit the Luminara website for more details.

Host Learning Centre
Assist in the operation of a lunchtime resource centre and lending library for ESL learners. More about English classes.

Host Pen Pal
Volunteers are matched one-on-one with and ESL learner to exchange letters over a period of 3 months before meeting in person. It is a great way to get to know people from different cultural backgrounds and experience cultural exchange through writing.

Host Match Program
Host volunteers are matched with an immigrant newcomer or family to help them become familiar with their new community.

Host Mentoring Services
Host Mentor volunteers are matched with internationally trained professionals in the same or related career field to help them become familiar with their profession in the Canadian context. More about Host Mentoring Services.

Immigrant Support Groups
Help with the Immigrant Women's Group, the Immigrant Senior's Group or one of the Youth Programs in weekly meetings and activities. More about the Multicultural Program.

Income Tax Volunteer
In partnership with the Canada Revenue Agency’s Community Volunteer Tax Program, volunteers assist low-income clients of the ICA to fill out income tax forms and answer their income tax questions. For more information on income tax volunteering please visit:

Settlement Volunteer

Help our clients fill out forms, write letters, create resumes and more. More information about the Settlement program.

Virtual Host
Answer email inquiries from newcomers who have not yet arrived in Victoria about local community services such as housing, education and the labour market.

Volunteer Driver
Volunteers drive clients, mainly seniors, to recreational outings and events in the Greater Victoria area on an on-call basis.

Volunteer Library Aide
Volunteers maintain inventory of library materials and assist with general upkeep and organization of library books and resources.

Volunteer Receptionist
Volunteers provide assistance in the front reception area, including: answering a 6-line phone system, taking phone messages, greeting walk-in visitors, providing information regarding ICA programs and services, and referring clients to appropriate ICA staff.
