Hello all! I am excited to join the ICA team as a Settlement Worker in Schools. My family is Irish and Filipino, and I was raised in Istanbul, Turkey. I moved with my family to Victoria in 2007, and have been a grateful guest on beautiful Lekwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ Territories since. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Gender Studies and English Literature, where I focused on migrant justice studies and cultural studies. I am honored to be able to work alongside youth, and have had the opportunity to work with a number of community organizations including V.S.A.C., V.I.R.C.S., and V.I.D.E.A. Working to support youth in accessing diverse educational and cultural opportunities and programming is something I value greatly. I am passionate about relationship building, anti-violence, harm reduction, and creating communities of care and support. I also have a background and Diploma in visual arts, and maintain an artistic and curatorial practice while being actively involved in art collectives and artist-run-centres/galleries in the community. I am so thrilled to be working alongside the team at ICA and with such a vibrant community of clients, families, and supporters.
Hello, my name is Robin and building community around diversity and learning opportunities are where I thrive the most. With a wealth of teaching and workshop experience in Ghana, Rwanda, Vietnam and Japan, I am eager to help newcomer youth be all they can be in my new hometown of Victoria. With a Master’s in Education in Cross-Cultural settings, I hope to use my time and talents at the ICA to inspire youth to build resiliency through outdoor challenges and cultural exchanges.
