IEC-BC’s Mentor Connect

 

Program Details

Immigrant Employment Council of BC’s MentorConnect program matches job-ready skilled newcomers with established local professionals for one-on-one occupation-specific coaching. Matches are based on occupation, industry, professional experience, career interests and goals.

How does the program work?

  • Over a two-month period, Mentors commit to approximately 12 hours of coaching. Meetings can take place in person, by telephone or online.
  • Mentors share knowledge and insights into local labour market practices.
  • Mentors refer their mentees to appropriate learning and development resources.
  • Mentors introduce mentees to other professionals within their networks for information interviews when applicable.

Mentor Criteria

Mentors are established local professionals who develop supportive professional relationships with their mentees.

Mentee Criteria

Eligible mentees are primarily referred to and supported by approved Service Provider Organization partners.

To become a Mentor, an individual must:

  • Have a minimum of two years of professional experience in their occupation within Canada.
  • Possess industry knowledge within Canada and open to sharing their professional network. Strong communication and coaching characteristics.
  • Commit to program deliverables and make time for mentoring activities.
  • Reside in British Columbia.

Mentor Application Form

To become a Mentee, an individual must:

  • Have arrived in Canada within the past ten years.
  • Be eligible to work in Canada (PR, Refugee Claimant or Citizenship), or have a valid open work permit (Student Visa and/or other TFW with open work visa).
  • Possess high-intermediate to advanced English skills
  • Be job ready with a job-ready resume, clear goals, and a personal pitch.
  • Commit to the two-month partnership, including making time.
  • Be able to meet regularly with their mentor and taking action, as advised by mentor.
